First Minister visits Shawlands Primary
First Minister visits Shawlands Primary

Nicola Sturgeon  Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, visited the school on Friday 29th May to meet and hear more about the P5 Peace Club. The children made a presentation about the aims of their club and had the opportunity to ask the First Minister questions about her role in the Scottish Parliament. Ms Sturgeon was so impressed that she has invited them to present to the Scottish Cabinet in Edinburgh!

P6 also met her to discuss an important issue they had learned about during a recent topic, Our Crop, Our Land. They had previously written to Ms Sturgeon because they were so concerned about Land Grabs. They had included a letter to the World Bank when they wrote to the First Minister – she is going to hand deliver this when she meets with the World Bank soon. Click here for photos.

SCOTTISH OPERA

This term the children in P6 and P7 were given the opportunity to work alongside Scottish Opera in an opera called, ‘Warriors: The Emperor’s Incredible Army’. They learned the songs in class with their teachers and worked for a full day with performers from Scottish Opera. To top it all off they delivered a fantastic performance to the parents and Primaries 4 and 5. It was a huge success. Well done to everyone involved!         Click here to see the photos
